METZ and PARIS – FRANCE - July 5th, 2006

Linbox today announced it has contributed portions of Linbox Directory Server to the Open Source community, allowing anyone to benefit from this authentication engine and administrative interface to manage users, groups and the policies that drive them.

More specifically, Linbox is contributing the interface code, the backend code and the necessary documentation to easily develop new plugins and features. This will enable other vendors and community projects to benefit from a complete Open Source secure authentication and identity management system based on standards like LDAP and Kerberos and from a highly ergonomic interface design.

The use of standards like LDAP allows the Linbox Directory Server to interoperate with most of the existing heterogeneous computer environments without major changes. Most of directory-enabled applications can immediately benefit from it to securely authenticate users and get their necessary policies.

Cédric Delfosse, main architect, said that “the LDS core system is highly modular and well documented. This should allow a number of developers to contribute to the project without any prior knowledge of the whole product architecture“.

Sébastien Lefebvre, CTO, added “people looking for a ready to use LDAP authentication system will just have to download source code and follow easy installation instructions for Debian, CentOS and Mandriva (Open-XChange, Squid and Samba plugins are also provided). Moreover, MS-Windows NT4 users can benefit today from an Open Source, valuable replacement based on the LDAP standard and supported by professional services. The contribution of the CUPS plugin (policies management, printing statistics and reports) will be available as of 2006 Q4.“

Arnaud Laprévote, founder, concludes “with this new contribution, Linbox further improves its market position as Open Source infrastructure solutions provider “. The Linbox Directory Server and Linbox Management Console code is now freely available on the Linbox community web site.
